Born a bit different than expected Scarlet has always embraced her uniqueness. When she starts preschool though she finds it can be a little scary to stand out from the crowd. But with the help of some new friends Scarlet's infectious enthusiasm has everyone celebrating what makes her special!

Audrey Vernick is the author of over twenty books for young readers including Unlike Other Monsters Is Your Buffalo Ready for Kindergarten? First Grade Dropout and Scarlet's Tale as well as Bob Not Bob! and Dear Substitute which she cowrote with Liz Garton Scanlon. She received a 2019 Fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. When she feels drippy and gross she likes to snuggle with her dog who is not named Bob. Liz Garton Scanlon (http://lizgartonscanlon.com/) is the author of many beloved children's books including All the World illustrated by Marla Frazee which won a Caldecott Honor and her debut middle-grade novel The Great Good Summer. She lives with her family in Austin Texas. She's all grown up now but sometimes when she's sick she still wants her "bob."

Matthew Cordell is the author and illustrator of many celebrated picture books including Hello Neighbor!: The Kind and Caring World of Mister Rogers and Wolf in the Snow recipient of the 2018 Caldecott Medal. As an illustrator he has collaborated with many more authors including Gail Carson Levine Philip C. Stead and Rebecca Kai Dotlich. Matthew lives with his wife author Julie Halpern and their two children in suburban Chicago. But when he's sick Matthew acts like the biggest baby in the house. (Just ask Julie.)
