Indian Fairy Tales

Joseph Jacobs

What happened when the Sun, the Moon and the Wind went out to dine, and why the fish laughed..

India was once thought of as 'The home of the fairy tale'. It was a popularly held belief that all European fairy tales originated here and were spread across the world by the Crusaders, Mongol missionaries, gypsies, traders and other travellers. This book is compiled from ancient Indian texts – such as the Jatakas, the Bidpai, and other timeless collections of fables.

You will meet the tortoise who couldn't stop talking, the wise jackal who saved the Brahmin from the tiger, and Gulizar, the beautiful princess of Ivory City. Filled with these and many other fantastic characters in extraordinary situations, Indian Fairy Tales contains more than 25 stories to ignite young imaginations. A unique and uncommon collection of fairy tales, it is a must-have for all bookshelves.
