Selected Essays on the Gita

Sri Aurobindo

This is an essential guide to the Gita that serves both academic and spiritual purposes. It explains the narrative of what many people consider Hinduism's most popular and sacred text and the coherent and unmatched philosophical synthesis that forms the fundamentals of Yoga. Sri Aurobindo's interpretation of the Gita also leaves the reader with a clear idea about his own approach to Yoga, his Integral Yoga.

Sri Aurobindo is known for his deep spiritual wisdom and writing prowess. However, his extremely knowledgeable and detailed approach as well as his language and style may have kept many potential readers at bay, especially when it comes to his interpretation of the Gita. This well-thought-out selection of his essays, some of which have been further abridged, makes Sri Aurobindo's work approachable even to people who do not have a background in the field.

The abridgement didn't involve any rewriting; only some text has been reduced. The core message and explanation have not been changed anywhere.

Sri Aurobindo

Sri Aurobindo (15 August 1872–5 December 1950), India's prominent revolutionary-turned yogi, was a prolific writer too. From Indian education to nationalism, philosophical speculation to Yoga and Integral Yoga, plays, stories, poetry – his literary and spiritual pursuits have resulted in an immense body of work that undeniably awes, inspires and attracts. But most important, it makes one think, imagine, believe and probe at the same time. The Life Divine, The Essays on the Gita, Savitri: A Legend and a Symbol, The Ideal of Human Unity are some of his best-known works.
